Finally labeled every valve after 25 years of just knowing

Small thing but it has bugged me since we put the pool in. Six valves on the pad and I have always just known which is which, never wrote it down anywhere, which is fine until my wife or one of the grandkids needs to backwash while I am at the doctor. Third week of April this year I got the label maker out, tagged every valve and the heater bypass too, took maybe twenty minutes total. Added a little diagram to the binder as well showing normal running position for each one. Felt almost silly doing it after all this time but now anyone can walk up to that pad and figure it out in ten seconds instead of calling me. Wish I had done it the first season instead of the twenty fifth.

Twenty minutes well spent, Tom, that binder diagram is the part I'd steal from you, the valves alone anyone can maybe puzzle out but the normal running position for each one is the thing that actually saves the phone call. Question for you though, when you did the heater bypass, did you mark two positions on it or just the one for normal running. Ours gets flipped seasonally between the heat pump running and full bypass when we shut it down, and I could see a label being more confusing than helpful if it only shows the one state and somebody moves it the other way for a reason they don't remember.

Our pad's never been labeled, six valves and I still just know them the way you did, but reading this makes me think about what happens the morning I don't come out for my swim and my wife's standing there guessing. Might finally get the label maker out myself. Good luck with it, sounds like it'll pay off the first time someone besides you needs to touch that pad.
