Never expected the replaster to change how the water feels

We had ours redone this spring and I knew it would look brighter, but nobody told me the water itself would feel different, softer somehow on your skin the first few weeks. Turns out that is pretty normal apparently, something about the new plaster curing and the pH wanting to climb while it does. Mine crept up higher than I am used to chasing back down almost every day at first. Gene said just be patient and don't go dumping acid in trying to force it, let it settle out gradual. Took about a month before it calmed down and started behaving like our old plaster did. Just surprised me is all, twenty five years with the same shell and I forgot pools can still throw you a curveball now and then.

Gene giving that advice to be patient is spot on, chasing new plaster pH with acid is how people end up with etching regrets later. The one thing id add is to hold off on the salt system if you were thinking about adding one during a replaster, ours went in with the new fiberglass shell but I have read plaster needs to fully cure first or it can mess with the surface. Worth asking whoever did the work before you fire up anything new chemistry wise.

Dana's right about letting new plaster cure before adding anything, and I'd say that goes double for salt systems, but even without salt mine did that same pH climb when it was poured back in 94, took near a month of just testing and waiting like Gene said, no acid dumping.. patience is the whole trick with new plaster.
