Borrowed a robot for the weekend and it keeps flipping near my steps

buddy let me try his robot before i pull the trigger on one myself, figured id finally test drive something instead of just talking myself into the Aiper every other week. thing climbs the walls fine but every single pass near my steps it flips itself over and just sits there spinning till i go flip it back. steps are the wide kind, three across, nothing weird about them that i can see.

is this a steps thing in general or maybe just this model not liking mine. only other pool i know with a robot is my buddys and his is walk in steps not these regular ones. kinda makes me nervous ill have the same issue whatever i end up buying, anyone else deal with this or is it just a settings thing im missing

Steps are the classic spot for that, the flat wide tread step throws off the climb angle and it loses suction right at the edge. My Scuba S1 handles mine fine but the E10 used to do the exact same flip-and-spin near steps before I just started manually redirecting it away from that zone. Not necessarily the model, just a rough spot for most bottom-crawlers, worth asking your buddy if his walk-in steps have a bigger radius, that probably changes the geometry enough to not trigger it.

Mine does the exact same thing near our steps, three wide steps too actually, its not constant but maybe once every few runs it ends up flipped right at the top step and just sits there buzzing. Never bothered chasing down why, I just glance over when its running near dinner time and flip it back if I catch it. So at least in my case its not a one model thing, ours is the Nautilus and it still does it occasionally.
