Caught a rust spot on the top rail before it spread

Small one but felt good. Doing my walk around before I put her to bed for the season up here in Ohio and noticed a little bubble in the paint on one of the top rail sections, right by the ladder. Poked at it and sure enough surface rust starting underneath, probably from splash sitting there all summer. Sanded it down to bare metal, hit it with some rust converter, then a coat of Rustoleum made for outdoor metal. Fifteen minutes and maybe five bucks in supplies. Pool's going on 15 seasons now and I really think it's the little stuff like this, not the big repairs, that keeps an above-ground going that long. Anybody else do a once a year once-over on the frame or is it just me being paranoid.

honestly wish i had your discipline on this. my pool's inground so no top rail to worry about but the ladder anchors on my deck did the same bubbling thing you're describing, found it about a month after i moved in and it was way past the "sand and hit it with converter" stage, whole thing was flaking and pitted underneath. 15 seasons and you caught it at fifteen minutes and five bucks, that's the whole game right there. i think everybody who's had a pool a while has a version of your story except half of us ignored the bubble till it wasnt a bubble anymore. definitely not paranoid, that's just maintenance actually working the way it's supposed to.
