Surprised how much a half point of pH changes my actual chlorine

Been logging FC/pH/TA/CYA daily all season (yes I'm that person) and finally sat down and ran the numbers on hypochlorous acid percentage instead of just eyeballing FC. At pH 7.6 with FC at 4.5 and CYA at 45, my actual sanitizing chlorine is a lot lower than I assumed, knew this in theory but seeing my own numbers plugged in was a wake up call. Screen cage means basically no splashout to explain any of my drift, so pH creep this week was just aeration from windy days apparently. Anecdotally I've been chasing FC numbers all season when I probably should've been watching pH more closely relative to CYA. n=1 but it changed how I'm reading my own log now.

That CYA of 45 is doing more to your effective chlorine than that half point of pH honestly, seen it a hundred times where guys chase FC numbers all season and never touch the stabilizer creeping up. Mine sits around 7.4 and I don't sweat small pH swings anymore, I just keep CYA in check and let liquid chlorine do the work without the extra stabilizer tabs keep dumping in.
