Didn't realize how fast the deck boards would grey out this year

Built the deck myself three summers ago, sealed it, figured id get a good five years before it needed love again. Went out there monday to touch up a spot by the ladder and the whole thing's gone that flat grey color, way faster than the last batch of boards did. Same sealant, same brand, nothing different that i can tell.

Only thing i can think is we had way more splash out this year, three kids doing cannonballs off the same two steps all summer, water just sits there and bakes into the wood over and over. Not rotting or anything, just ugly. Gonna have to resand and reseal probably a year earlier than i budgeted for.

Anybody else notice their deck aging quicker the more kids you've got treating it like a diving board, buddy

Yeah that splash zone thing is real, amigo, water pooling and drying in the same spot over and over just cooks the sealant faster than normal weather does. My pad's not wood so I can't say much on the resand side, but I'd bet money the two-step cannonball spot greys out a year or two ahead of the rest of the deck every time.
